Born in Erie in 1971, the Bucs have always been in my blood. My very first memory of watching baseball was the 1979 World Series, cheering on the fam-a-lee with my father, who was born and raised in Western PA. (as was my wife coincidentally). Then having moved to Maine, I became a default Red Sox fan. After multiple heartbreaks in the 80's and 90's, they finally won in 2004. I was as die hard a Red Sox fan as there is, but many people wondered how the fan base would respond to the curse breaking. I found myself losing interest in the game, culminating with a "don't care anymore" attitude after the Red Sox won yet another title in 2007. I responded by starting this blog and rekindling my love for the game, and the Bucs.
And in case you were wondering what "newpiratesfan" is supposed to mean: 1) I am a "new" fan to the team because I traded in my Red Sox Nation card for the Bucs, and 2) Living in Indianapolis, I get to watch the AAA guys come up, the "new pirates" if you will. I hope there are plenty of new pirates fans in the future, as the bandwagon is starting to fill up!
Beat Em, Bucs!
