AL West Predictions

1.  Oakland Athletics
2.  Texas Rangers (wild card)
3.  Los Angeles Angels
4.  Seattle Mariners

Last year, my surprise pick for the division was the Rangers, and that worked out pretty well.  Remember that last year everyone's darkhorse was Seattle?  Wow.  So in 2011 I'm going with Oakland.  They have a nice young rotation and did a good job this offseason of shoring up some holes.  Nobody will confuse them with an offensive juggernaut like Texas, but they should score enough runs to win a lot of games.  Texas is going to be hurting without Cliff Lee - had they re-signed him, I would probably be picking them.  The Angels should be a bit better than last year based on having the best rotation in the West.  If Vernon Wells can resurrect his career, the Angels could be dangerous.  But I would bet against it.  After Felix Hernandez pitches, it's 4 days of watching Ichiro.  There's nothing else in Seattle to get excited about.  When Brendan Ryan is pushing Jack Wilson from shortstop to second base, you know you have it bad.
