The 14-20 Buccos, high on taking 2 of 3 from the first-place Cardinals after an 8 game losing streak, welcome in the 13-20 Colorado Rockies for the weekend. The Rox just lost 2 of 3 against the Astros, and are starting a 10 day road trip with a bit of jet lag to boot. The Rox are throwing out Jorge De La Rosa, Aaron Cook and Ubaldo Jimenez to face the Buccos 1-2-3. Look for Paul Maholm to redeem himself after a bad start against the Mets, a lot of runs scored against both Ian and Aaron Saturday in an offensive explosion for both teams, and for Zaduke to win the rubber match in a pitching duel.
Winning 2 of 3 at home against the Rox isn't only necessary, but the alternative is unacceptable. Some wins against the next three teams (all well under .500) will go a long way to bringing some swagger into the Friendly Confines towards the end of the month. Then they can return home, face the then-to-be last place Astros, as I cheer on from 125-B-5 in my very first trip to PNC.
