Cutch-22: Andrew's garnering all sorts of praise for his play of late. And it's well deserved, as he's looking like the real deal, making us all forget about our 2008 All-Star Pirate. Last night's effort was particularly inspiring (just wished I watched the game, but instead went and saw UP, which is well worth it). A stellar at-bat drawing a base loaded walk vs 2008 Cy Young winner Cliff Lee, and the game-winning hit for the Buccos in the 9th, first of the year.

Catch-22: In his last 15 games, current Bucco 1B Papa Roche is hitting .366, slugging .707, OPSing 1.145 and playing stellar defense. With 4 HR in 10 games, including an Allegany Splash, he's heating up with the weather, and playing himself right out of town.

Etc: Ian Snell is coming to Indy, because of "too much negativity!" Well, what did you expect, when after signing a 3-yr extension for $8.6M in March of 2008, and since then all you've shown for it is a 9-20 record, ERA of 5.40, WHIP of 1.72, and lots of excuses ... Virgil Vasquez replaces Snell in the rotation, his second shot in the majors. His first stint was pretty uninspiring for Detroit in '07, but he's pitched well in Indy and couldn't be much worse than Ian ... Brad Lincoln looked really good in his Indy debut, and could be due for a September callup perhaps. Hope to see him live Monday night ... and Pedro Alvarez hit his 2nd homer since being called up to Altoona.

No business winning this one, but ....

Walk off. Love it! The Comeback Kids win a slugfest .... one more game, then a little time off for an over-worked pitching staff. Not that you can call giving up 22 hits "working" .... and I guess Herrera isn't going to be the ace up the sleeve either, huh? And with Dumi back on the DL .... lack of pitching depth is going to start showing, soon. In theory, you can't hit 5 homeruns every night, right?

Why would you trade this guy?

3rd walk off of the year, this one of the really-feel-good variety, a homerun to center in the 13th. I'm diggin' the uni's too .... very cool. Now, let's end this IL play crap, with a win against the Devils. Gorzo has a chance today to win the 39th game for the Buccos at the half way game of the year. 82 is entirely possible!

UPDATE: Well, 38-43 is still perfectly respectable, and 44-37 isn't entirely unlikely.

They don't HAVE TO be buyers or sellers at this point, but a flame throwing righty sure would be nice. While it's kind of nice having the most productive outfield in baseball right now, Nady could net a starting arm or 2 at the end of July, right? Maybe they can find lightning in a bottle on the mound in the 2nd half. I'm not convinced the legend of Ty Taubenheim is emerging just yet .... obviously, I'm talking about YOU, Ian .... get healthy, get right, and get some wins!

Walk off Mania!

Enough to turn the interleague tide? Hopefully. IL play has been devestating so far (The Pirates avoided becoming the first team to lose 100 interleague games. Their 59-99 record is by far the worst of any team in interleague games. They lost five of their first six games against the AL this season), although the Buccos are still floating in 4th. At least browsing the box score, it looks like Duke matched Halladay inning for inning, which is huge. This team might be 4 games over .500 with a couple decent starting pitchers (yeah, I'm talking to you Ian) rather than 4 games under .500 ... Hopefully Maholm can keep it going against the BJ's. Must get hot on this homestand, especially with the Spanks and Rays coming to town this week.

Boy those red uni's are hideous.

Oh, and in case you missed it, the Indians had a nice little walk off as well, bottom of the ninth, 2 outs down by 2, 3 run homer .... in front of 13,000 (the largest home crowd of the year) ...

Way to go Pearce!

Sunday's Hero

Bay wins it Again!

Although this one simply could be blamed on Soriano's error in the 9th (while I'm thrilled Nate got credit for a double, there can be no question this was E7). Now, in theory, winning two games connsecutively in dramatic extra inning fashion against a team that has been your nemesis all season long are what streaks are born of. Enjoy a well deserved Memorial day off 4th place Buccos, because then it's time to bring this mojo with you to Cincinnati.
