Patience with Pedro

Pedro Alvarez, originally uploaded by tf-oto.

Hey Bucco Nation, let's not get to amped up on the "Pedro is a Bust" talk that is going around.  It's perfectly normal for sluggers to take awhile to adjust.  The simple fact is that he was rushed to the big leagues before he was ready.  How about some minor league comps?

Ryan Howard, 508 games, 111 HR, 299/387/549/936
Prince Fielder, 448 games, 91 HR, 297/398/524/921
Adrian Gonzalez, 653 games, 69 HR, 296/365/448/813
Pedro Alvarez, 217 games, 44HR, 288/380/535/915

So in roughly half the minor league games, his slash line rivals these top sluggers, and he's hitting homeruns at the same clip.  Perhaps if the front office would let him mash ALL NEXT YEAR in Indianapolis, he might be set to destroy the NL in 2013.  I think the Pirates brass should start teaching him first base in the minors, and let him learn as any young player needs to.

I haven't given up on Pedro, and neither should you.
