1/13/11

The Bucs vs. the NL Central (Pitchers)

Part 2 of the silly exercise.  Kind of depressing actually, I wish I never did this.

Rotation
1.  STL (Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright, Jaime Garcia, Jake Westbrook, Kyle Lohse) 3 points
2.  MIL (Zack Greinke, Yovani Gallardo, Shaun Marcum, Randy Wolf, Chris Narveson) 6
3.  CIN (Edinson Volquez, Bronson Arroyo, Johnny Cueto, Homer Bailey, Travis Wood) 9
4.  CHI (Carlos Zambrano, Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, Randy Wells, Tom Gorzelany) 12
5.  HOU (Brett Myers, Wandy Rodriguez, Bud Norris, J.A. Happ, Nelson Figueroa) 15
6.  PIT (Paul Mahom, Ross Ohlendorf, Kevin Correia, James McDonald, Scott Olsen) 18

But, with a real chance of making it to No. 4!

Bullpen
1.  CHI (Carlos Marmol, Kerry Wood, Sean Marshall) 2 points
2.  STL (Ryan Franklin, Kyle McClellan, Trever Miller) 4
3.  PIT (Joel Hanrahan, Evan Meek, Chris Resop) 6
4.  CIN (Francisco Cordero, Aroldis Chapman, Nick Masset) 8
5.  HOU (Brandon Lyon, Wilton Lopez, Mark Melancon) 10
6.  MIL (John Axford, LaTroy Hawkins, Takashi Saito) 12

Now if we can only get to the 7th inning with a lead ...

Round Two Totals, and the Final Tally
Since I'm making the rules up as I go, I'll give the following points.  I have no logical basis for any of these values whatsoever.  Mock away.

1.  STL 33 (26 position + 7 pitching)
2.  CHI 40 (26+14)
3.  CIN 43 (26+17)
4.  MIL 47 (29+18)
5.  HOU 55 (30+25) and PIT 55 (31+24)

So what do we learn?  That we should be battling Houston for the cellar, we already knew that I think.  I think St. Louis came out way ahead in all this (obviously their pitching isn't twice as good as the Cubs); they're still the class of the division.  Although everyone is totally geeked about the Reds and Brewers, these are still flawed teams in many respects.  And the Cubs actually have a chance to be real good (BIG IF Zambrano is an ace again).  I don't think the Bucs could approach Milwaukee with the current rotation, unless either Charlie Morton or Brad Lincoln come up huge.  Sigh.
LET'S GO BUCS!
