Waking up from hibernation, but hitting the snooze button

This is just about the worst time of the sports season. The World Series is over. The last Formula One race is this weekend (Go Fernando!). Basketball has begun, which absolutely bores me to tears until March. Hockey has begun, but just isn’t enthralling until the playoffs. Sure, the NFL is mid-season, but I’m not sure if it’s the pussy-fying of the league or what, but I just can’t seem to care as I have in years past. Maybe it’s because the Colts are weaker this year, don’t know. I can’t even seem to get excited about the family point spread pool.

This is just about the best time of the sports season. While I whittle down my twitter-following to keep non-Pirate news off my feed*, it’s time to turn to the Hot Stove. It’s time to drop $3.00 on the MLB Trade Rumors app, time to start reading all the lists and projections, and time to start thinking about buying my Indianapolis Indians season tickets for next year. It looks like the Tribe should have some decent pitching this year, so the 21 game package might be in order. I’m not too sure how much hitting will be around though ….
*This seems as good as time as any to point out that @newpiratesfan now only serves as a post-notify-only account. If you just want to know when this blog is updated, follow me there. I will actually do my twittering on @tonyframpton, baseball topics and other real-life moments. Please follow or don’t follow appropriately. And if I follow you on one account but not on another, please don’t take offense. I just need to keep my multiple egos separate!  Forget that, I'm obviously tweeting at both accounts again ...

Over the next few weeks, I will attempt to answer the following questions:

#1 What do the Pirates need?
#2 What would I do as armchair general manager?
#3 What will the front office actually do?
#4 What can we expect for 2011?

Thanks for reading and/or following!

Let’s Go Bucs!
