Couple moves catching my eye. First, Brad Lincoln has been called up to Indianapolis. I am looking forward to seeing this guy who despite a 1-5 record is supposedly looking great. And the anti-hustler Craig Monroe has been designated for assignment, and the suddenly resurgent 4A Steven Pearce is up to the 'Burgh again. Having seen Pearce in Indy the last year and a half, I have to say I'm not terribly impressed. He seems to have compiled some good total stats, but I never got the impression he was an impact player like A-Cutch (ugh, or yes, even Bixler for that matter when he's not striking out). Plus, technically Steven doesn't really have a position to play, as Moss/Morgan/Young/Hinske seem to have the LF/RF covered, and Adam LaRoche is still our first baseman, right? Well not today vs Colorado ... of course everyone is thinking that a trade might be imminent. Well, as I type this, Adam's pinch-hittin' for Pearce .... h'mmmm, broken bat groundout. Yawn, about as exciting as watching FOX's coverage of Silverstone this afternoon. But I digress .... With the Buccos securing last place this weekend, the thoughts of a future fire sale come up again. While I do appreciate the new FO's approach so far, I sure hope Freddy/Jack stay. There is nobody in the system that can step in right now, as we've seen Brian already, and Shelby Ford is looking like he should be back in Altoona. Luis Cruz? Ugh. Plus the loss of their defense could have a disastrous effect on an overachieving pitching staff which is slowly coming back down to earth (ERA 16/30, WHIP 22/30). But back to PapaRoche. If the Giants offered a struggling Jonathan Sanchez and a minor leaguer , we'd be crazy not to bite, right? Aside from Adam, the only other Pirate I can see going is Nyjer, and that going to take a blind and desperate GM (say, Kenny Williams) ... perchance to dream.
It sure will be nice to get home. This Twins/Rockies beatdown has been pretty deflating of late.
