Apparently a few players are having a tough time adapting to the loss of All-World Nate McLouth who apparently was going to play Moses later this summer. Quoteth:
On Thursday, at the clubhouse table where McLouth used to play cards with relievers Sean Burnett and Jesse Chavez, a candle bearing McLouth's uniform No. 13 was lit, along with a photo of him in uniform, the Post-Gazette reported. "We'll miss him," Burnett said. Other players were angrier. "There ain't a guy in here who ain't [ticked] off about it," said first baseman Adam LaRoche, according to the report. "It's kind of like being with your platoon in a battle, and guys keep dropping around you. You keep hanging on, hanging on, and you've got to figure: How much longer till you sink?
Ironically, Pedro Cerrano also wore number thirteen .... spooky .... Hey folks, let's get a grip, mmmkay? A career .260/.338/.460 hitter, Nate McLouth has had 2 fantastic months in Pittsburgh, and been average pretty much the rest of his time. He represented the Buccos in last year's All-Star game, but probably wouldn't have this year (my money on the lone Pirate is on Freddy Sanchez). And while it feels like the front office is giving up on this year, are they really? They got a pitcher in Morton who could hopefully step in for a dreadful Ian Snell, a guy in Hernandez who could replace Nyjer if the FO can convince someone to take him at the deadline, and some 3rd guy in A ball with "good peripherals". Oh yeah, and Andrew McCutchen gets to play ball. I've been saying all year that once Nyjer fails, A-Cutch would be up, but not too early to start the super two/free agent clock crap. So what happened instead was Nyjer hasn't failed, and they sold high on Nate, to a desperate Braves GM, knowing he was the only guy in their outfield who would fetch a bounty worth making the trade. Plus, he's a red wings fan .... that's almost reason enough.
Now let's just concentrate for a bit on not letting the Astros catch us, mmmkay?
