Season Review

Well the season's over and I suppose some sort of recap is due. I have obviously lost steam on posting because the Buccos... A- are not in the playoffs B- did not finish anywhere near.500 C- finished in last place below a dusty baker team, and.... D- quite frankly were not an exciting team to follow in september So let's do a quick recap and moments to remember about 2008: Pre-Season Pick: 83 games and 4th place. Obviously I had to be a homer here; have you seen the title of this blog? But if you think back to July 25 (Nady/Marte trade), the Pirates were 48-55 only 7 games back of .500 but still I was still reaching. August was a brutal schedule, but we'll get there.... final record: 67-95 (100 loses would have been pretty disastrous). April: 11-16, May: 15-13 (26-29), June: 12-15 (38-44), July: 12-16 (50-58), August: 7-21 (57-79), September: 10-16 (67-95)... So you're talking 3 "not-so-horrible" months in May-June-July (really, a winning record in May?) and a dismal start and a disastrous August. Eh. April saw the end of a brief but torturous Matt Morris Era, and the emergence of Nate Dangerfield McLouth. May was about the Penguins, so the Buccos' best month was largely missed. Soriano did his best Brant Brown impression, and Bay won 2 straight games with walk-offs in 2 said two days. June was about drafting the 3B of the future, and Mint-cave-itch jarring with Mandy Johnson. July predictably was all about the fire sale. August was almost about a perfect game, but really it was about playing .250 baseball and the Pedro sagas. September brought a close to the season with some good news about Pedro, tying a really bad record, and seeing my new favorite baseball team in person for the first time.

In a couple of months, it might be time for a "hot stove update."

I regret nothing. Go BUCCOS!

See ya.
