It Ain't Easy

I'm discovering pretty quickly (but was never really surprised) that it ain't easy being a Pirates fan. But then again, I became a Red Sox fan when it wasn't popular to be (early 80's), and eventually that paid off. It certainly is very easy to be a Sawx fan these days ..... I knew quite awhile back that the Pirates were going to have a tough August (7-16 with 5 left to play), but wow! They have played the hardest schedule of anyone in the majors this month, and it's showing for sure. They lost their two best hitters, and an important bullpen piece. And Laroche spent time on the DL just when he was heating up. But you can't make excuses (I haven't even mentioned the horrible staring pitching). Ultimately, all 25 guys are Major League players, although maybe not on every team. Last night's game was particularly difficult to watch. You know it's bad when you live 400 miles away from Pittsburgh, only get to see the Cubs/Reds games, and Hannity and Colmes is more entertaining. So tonight I'll be stuck again switching back and forth between the game (Zambrano v Snell) and the convention, hoping I'm not rooting for TWO losing teams! And yes, the sidebar "standings that matter" will be changing very soon (haha.... need to go 25-6; playing .333 ball in August absolutely obliterated any hope of winning 82 in '08)..... now it's going to be time to focus on not finishing in last place. Oh, and what is up with this?
